THE TECTONIC DRIFT IN THE KISII COUNTY SENATORIAL RACE
By Haron Ototo
The speculation on the heir to the "vacant" senatorial position in the Great Kisii County is unlikely to calm down soon. After it had seemed so clear that the voters were going to chose from either seasoned politicians in Omingo Magara - Former South Mugirango MP and 2013 loser and Prof. Sam Ongeri - Former Nyaribari Masabo MP both of whom share one thing in common: losing the 2013 race to the current senator and the Jubilee gubernatorial aspirant under Jubilee (Chris Obure) or the son of former powerful Minister and presidential aspirant Simon Nyachae, Charles Nyachae who was the CIC Chairman until it was disbanded... Their is a new entrant, an unlikely entrant who has caught the aforementioned trio by surprise. Isaac Mokua Onchagwa (Isaac Bw'amabati).
Isaac Onchagwa who comes from Bonchari Constituency has been Jubilee Organizing Secretary for Kisii County until he announced his intent to run for the seat. He has also been working as a CDF co-coordinator for Bonchari Constituency. If his entry into race is a surprise then his competitors must be prepared for more surprises from the Youthful Senatorial aspirant who has drawn inspiration from the Current Senator for Nandi County and Potential Governor of the county in the forthcoming general election. His Presser well launching his bid at Kisii Hotel can never be watered down. As stated earlier, this "boy" is not going to be pushed aside. In fact he is going to give his competitors not only a run for their money, but also a run for their age and experience.
Unlike his competitors who are riding on parties and coalition alignments, Isaac stands tall as a youth, his agenda is likely to resonate well with the youth, his first step was not a false start and his agenda and non-partsan approach on his quest are some of the factors that are likely to boost his bid.
While addressing the press and when the issue of political association arose, he was quick to water down the issue of alignment by saying that his bid is neither for Jubilee nor NASA but rather for the youth of Kisii County. "Let them take all the seats but leave the senate seat for the youth... I stand for the youth, be it Jubilee youths or NASA youths" He said. He added that his office will be easly accessible and as a youth who has gone through hard times before making it, he is ready to work hand in hand with the youth for the great good of the county.
On the issue of Youth Marginalization by local leadership, he made it clear through his slogan "NOTHING FOR US, WITHOUT US" the youth are not going to play second fiddle any longer. They are ready to wrestle in the same ring with the old guard until the get their space in the running of the county.
Isaac is proving to cause a major impact on the race and to the Magaras, Nyachaes and Ongeris of the Great Kisii County, Isaac Bw'amabati is telling you, "Watch this Space".
