CHARLES NYACHAE TO BE BAPTIZED IN A DIRTY POLITICAL POOL?
By Haron Ototo
Immediately after loosing the Nyaribari Chache Parliamentary seat in 2007 to Dr. Robert Monda of ODM, the seasoned politician hanged his political boots. Little was Known on who was likely to take over from the most reckoned Gusii Political family. It is a fact that each and every politician will have an heir to the family political crown which had been left by their seniors in the family. However, In nyachae's family left everyone guessing. The family political mantle has been vacant for a while now. But, there is some right at the end of the tunnel. Charles Nyachae joining active politics.
As always, there is political baptism for new entrants and it is Nyachae's turn.. It might be in murky
waters, in fire or in a dirty pool of water. But better of all is baptism of your own making in your own identified pool of clean water. May he has already identified his political baptism elements by showing interest in the vacant Kisii Senatorial Seat. Vacant in the essence that the incumbent Senator Chris Obure is going for the Gubernatorial position come next election Read Kisii Gubernatorial race: Obure stands a better chance against Ongwae.
If The ambitious young Nyachae is not going to be careful in his quest, he might end up being baptized in a very dirty political pool. This is because of the following: I am going to mention them in a cliche way of the "infamous undergraduate MCA of the Pre-Matiang'i era" I mean things.
Thing Number 1. Going against seasoned politicians. Charles Nyachae being a political greenhorn and going against the experienced duo of Omingo Magara and Prof. Sam Ongeri of PDP and ODM respectively will not help him. The duo have been swimming in politics for the better part of their lives. They know the terrain very well and are aware of the mistakes and wrong turns that they had made before hence they are likely to rectify them.
Thing Number 2. Lack of a good political network. Complimenting the aforementioned point, Nyachae lacks a political network of his own. He sometimes looks disinterested, disoorganised and reluctant to creat his own political niche. This is evident in that he has not made even the first step of moving out of the Jubilee Comfort zone to his own senatorial zone. For instance has Nyache ever made his own personal political move especially on the ground? Am yet to hear one.
Thing Number 3. He is yet to break out of his dad's shadow. With all due respect to the best or one of the best legal minds in not only Kenya but also in the region. The ambitious senatorial aspirant has not brokrn out of the senior Nyachae's shadow. He needs to move fast forward and straight a head and make that bold step in investing in his political ambitions. The issue of oligarch may arise at some time but it won't be an issue if he makes the right move of evading a ride on his fathers legacy.
Otherwise some of the best leaders we have in the country inherited the mantles from their family members. People like Raila from the dad, Onyonka from the dad, Uhuru from the dad, Joyce Laboso from her sister, Gideon from his dad, Mudavadi from the dad.... I don't see a problem if Charles picks it up from where his dad left.
Thing Number 4. The division in the clan. A part from being his senior in politics, he also come from the same clan as Nyachae. Here I am reffering to Prof. Sam Ongeri who has maliciously moved from Jubilee to ODM. Both Nyachae and Ongeri come from Omonyaribari clan and they are going for the same seat, Kisii Senatorial seat. The political conflict between the two will likely lower their stake in the bargaining table of local politics.
However Charles Ayako is a very intelligent mind and if he wins the Senatorial seat nothing can stop him from even becoming the speaker of the senator since he is a respected brain and a good leader as exhibited from his leadership in the Constitutional Implementation Commission and also his experience in being the Former presidential Candidate's (His father's) engine and think tank can not be overstated.
